Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – June is Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Awareness month, and veterans aren’t the only ones who suffer from it. In fact, according to the National Center for PTSD, nearly 60 percent of men and 50 percent of women will experience at least one trauma in their lifetime.

PTSD can be triggered by a variety of traumatic events, such as rape, physical abuse and of course terrorist attacks, much like what happened in Orlando.

“There are definitely events that we all go through, and we can handle,” said CHI Memorial social services manager, Erricka Hill, “But when you feel like you are stuck and that you can’t move from that situation, then we should not ignore it.”

Hill suggests seeking immediate medical help, if symptoms such as anxiety, depression, night sweats or flashbacks begin. For more information on triggers, signs and symptoms of PTSD call CHI Memorial at 423-756-1062.
