ATTN PSU Students: Vets Fest at Tussey 8/29-8/30

Join Us at Vets Fest on August 29th & 30th, 2015 at Tussey Mountain

A music festival benefitting the construction of a new Penn State student veterans house. Join us for two full days of bands, go-karts and family fun, all for a great cause!

Dane's Dogs for Vets will have a table set up with information about Cpl Freedman Foundation along with a donation box. We are very excited to spread the awareness at this venue, since Cpl Dane Freedman attended one and a half semesters at Penn State main campus. He struggled to get help with his mental health issues, and had to drive to a VA clinic in Altoona, PA from State College for his appointments. We truly believe more resources need to be available for our returning veterans. This event benefits the construction of a "Vets House" on campus to help transitioning veterans better cope with their hardships they have when they return home from service. According to the webpage:

"In 1970, the Penn State University Veterans Organization acquired an old burned down fraternity. 25 student veterans returning from Vietnam rebuilt the place and moved in with the hopes that they would be able to come together and help one another cope with issues most had upon their return. Today those issues are known as PTSD and TBI. The veterans who moved in together created a brotherhood that the founders still share today through class reunions. The residence was an integral part of the student veterans’ lives for almost 20 years. Sadly, in 1989, the house burned down again(above piccture). While the structural loss was total, student veterans today face similar issues as those Vietnam veterans encountered almost 50 years ago.In February 2014, the Association of Penn State Veteran Alumni (ASPVA) was formed formally to bring this brotherhood together again and to construct a new student veterans house. A 501(c)19(Veterans Non-Profit) was set up to collect donations to be used to provide student veterans with a place they could call their own through a new Vets House!"

Come out, enjoy the beautiful weather and help us spread the word about our important cause!!
